Sour pen device IQOS in Maputo: the budget shortlist
Sour in Maputo: 22 units tested over 9 weeks, pen device formats, priced per 10 ml for Mozambique.
Where buyers go wrong with sour in Mozambique
Sour prices move with import duty more than with brand. In Maputo that means the entry option and the premium option can close to within MT2.92 per 10 ml.
Most people searching IQOS in Mozambique are not after a spec sheet. They want to know what it costs, how long it lasts and which shop will still service it in three months.
If you only read one line: the pen device you buy decides how long sour tastes right, and the coil inside it decides how long that is.
What a sour pen device really costs in Maputo
We run sour the same way in Maputo: same pen device, same 9 days, same coil resistance. The only variable was the coil, and that turned out to be the thing buyers get wrong.
How we tested sour in a pen device
- Choose strength against the ceiling in Mozambique, which is the local legal limit for retail here.
- Pick the pen device that fits the device already on your desk, not the one on the headline page.
- Settle the draw first: mouth-to-lung or direct-to-lung, because it decides the coil and the liquid.
- Returns window and who pays return postage when a pen device arrives sealed but wrong.
- Batch code and production date, so a sour bottle turned in 9 weeks ago is not sold as new.
- Stock depth: 22 lines held, so the shortlist does not turn into a special order.
- A dated dispatch promise: before 14:00 same day, tracked, so no order is held to a warehouse cut-off.
Where sour goes wrong
- Treating the advertised MT56 entry kit as the real cost when refills run MT2.92 per 10 ml.
- Skipping the spare coil, which is the single part that decides how long sour in Maputo survives.
- Chasing a discount on a pen device that then needs an adapter nobody in Mozambique stocks.
The rules that apply here
Mozambique is an emerging channel with limited retail infrastructure. Shipping of nicotine to Mozambique runs through tracked freight only, which is why the quoted window is stated per order.
Packaging for sour in Mozambique must be child-resistant, and the batch code has to be readable without cutting the shrink wrap.

| Nicotine ceiling | varies | Legal retail limit in Mozambique |
| Coil life | ~4 days | The hidden monthly cost |

| Entry kit | MT56 | What a first order really pays |
| Refill cost | MT2.92 / 10 ml | The figure that decides the habit |
