Caramel pen device IQOS in Maputo: the best shortlist
Caramel in Maputo: 11 units tested over 2 weeks, pen device formats, priced per 10 ml for Mozambique.
Coil life, liquid cost and the caramel habit
If you are looking at caramel in Mozambique, the first question is not strength. It is whether the pen device you are quoting actually fits the device on your desk.
Caramel in a pen device is not the same product you see in a catalogue photo, and the price per 10 ml is where the gap shows. In Maputo the liquid, the coil and the power setting all have to agree before the flavour actually lands.
If you only read one line: the pen device you buy decides how long caramel tastes right, and the coil inside it decides how long that is.
What a caramel pen device really costs in Maputo
Caramel prices move with import duty more than with brand. In Maputo that means the entry option and the premium option can close to within MT1.68 per 10 ml.
How we tested caramel in a pen device
- Pick the pen device that fits the device already on your desk, not the one on the headline page.
- Settle the draw first: mouth-to-lung or direct-to-lung, because it decides the coil and the liquid.
- Choose strength against the ceiling in Mozambique, which is the local legal limit for retail here.
- Spare parts availability for pen device in Mozambique, since tanks and pods go first.
- The listed nicotine ceiling, which is the local legal limit in Mozambique, not a suggestion.
- Clear PG/VG ratio on the label, which predicts throat hit more accurately than strength.
- Batch code and production date, so a caramel bottle turned in 2 weeks ago is not sold as new.
Where caramel goes wrong
- Buying the cheapest pen device available and repeating it because the first coil burnt.
- Chasing a discount on a pen device that then needs an adapter nobody in Mozambique stocks.
- Ignoring the batch date on a pen device and discovering the listed price was for old stock.
The rules that apply here
Retail sales in Mozambique sit under the same nicotine the label declares, which is the local legal limit. Anything above it is not sold through this channel.
Mozambique is an emerging channel with limited retail infrastructure. Shipping of nicotine to Mozambique runs through tracked freight only, which is why the quoted window is stated per order.

Frequently asked questions
Why does caramel taste burnt?
Almost always the coil, not the liquid. On the pen device units we ran, a coil past 5 days turned the caramel blend itself harsh.
How long does caramel in a pen device last?
In Maputo we measured 2 to 11 days per unit depending on the coil. The bottle outlasts the coil, so the coil is what you replace.
How much does a pen device cost per 10 ml?
On the last run in Maputo: about MT1.68 per 10 ml liquid plus MT57 for the entry kit, before any bulk discount.
